Elixir for the Heart

A poem that expresses my experience of panic attacks and clinical depression. Everyone’s experience of both panic attacks and depression is unique to them.

Initially, I wrote just the first two stanzas…  but since this blog is about positives, I added a second half to lift the mood.

It’s light all night
It’s dark all day
Ice for blood
Life slips away

The seconds stretch
Unending wait
The black dog snarls
I suffocate

Then laughter lights
My darkened day
The black dog turns
He slinks away

And ‘though this joy
Is swiftly passed
The sweet elixir
Heals my heart
