[00:00:00] Jason Barnard: Hi, I’m Jason Barnard, and I wanted to show you how I can control what search and AI say about me.
[00:00:07] Jason Barnard: For example, here, Jason Barnard Awards. I won Davey Awards in 2008 and I put it on my website three months ago. Here, as an award-winning innovator.
[00:00:20] Jason Barnard: Three months later, all of the AI tells me that I won the Davey Awards.
[00:00:25] Jason Barnard: Obviously, I have the physical proof but there’s no other proof online other than what I say myself. And this demonstrates that Google and AI (Answer Engines) trust me and demonstrates the importance of building trust.
[00:00:37] Jason Barnard: Because if you try this on your own website, it almost certainly will not work. Because by default, Google and AI do not trust what you say about yourself. They need corroboration.
[00:00:48] Jason Barnard: In my case, I’ve built up so much trust and good faith that they’ll believe whatever I say. So we’re going to start with ChatGPT. Let’s see what ChatGPT says. And here we go. It’s searching the web. There you go. Two-time Davey Award winner. And it actually says what I won them for, which is what I put on my website.
[00:01:09] Jason Barnard: And it’s taking the information from Kalicube and from JasonBarnard.com and Search Engine Land and Forbes councils. All of which I control.
[00:01:17] Jason Barnard: Next we’ll try Gemini. This is Google.There you go. Award-winning innovator, two Davey Awards, interactive visual arts.
[00:01:31] Jason Barnard: Next, Perplexity. And there we go, Davey Awards, and it’s even got the photo, which is delightful.
[00:01:40] Jason Barnard: And the last one is Google Learn About. If you haven’t tried it, I advise that you do because this is the future of answer and assistive engines. Here we go. Gold Davey Award, and a Silver Davey Award. Also a Black Belt Certified Professional from Searchmetrics.
[00:01:54] Jason Barnard: I’d forgotten about that one. So even Google Learn About knows more than I do and recognizes my expertise and impact on my industry.
[00:02:04] Jason Barnard: For me this is where we’re going. That context on the left hand side really helps people to dig down into more detail about me. So I have no idea what this is going to say.
[00:02:23] Jason Barnard: Oh, there you go. Brilliant. Wonderful. How delightful.
[00:02:28] Jason Barnard: So somebody who’s researching me or doing due diligence will understand what I’ve done.
[00:02:32] Jason Barnard:And what I have done is presented by Google Learn About, by ChatGPT, by Gemini, by Perplexity, exactly as I want it according to my website.
[00:02:45] Jason Barnard: Which is my entity home, where I can describe to Search and AI
exactly how I want to be presented to the subset of their users who are my audience.
